The India Cricket Team registered a 6-wicket win over Bangladesh in their opening game of the ICC Champions Trophy. A huge credit for India’s win goes to Shubman Gill for his unbeaten ton at Dubai. After his incredible century, Gill who was adjudged as the Man of the Match claimed it was one of his most satisfying innings.

India was tasked to chase down 229 and the Men in Blue came on top of the opposition after Shubman Gill guided the way with his excellent knock. He went on to slam his 8th ODI ton as he remained unbeaten on 101 from 129 deliveries. His wonderful innings consisted of 9 fours and 2 huge sixes. Both Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul’s unbeaten 41-run knocks were enough to ensure a win for India.

Happy with first ton in any ICC event

“Definitely (it was) one of my most satisfying innings that I’ve played and my first century in an ICC event so very satisfying and very happy with the way I performed,” Gill said in the post-match ceremony.

This was Gill’s maiden ODI ton in any ICC event. He had previously played the ODI World Cup 2023 where his highest knock came in 92 runs. Back in 2023, he slammed 4 fifties but failed to reach the coveted three-digit mark. However, things were different in Dubai where he kept his composure to slam his ton.

“When myself and Rohit bhai went out there, cutting the ball wasn’t that easy because the balls outside the off (stump) weren’t coming onto the bat. So I thought of using my feet to even the fast bowlers when I’m trying to go over the circle,” he said.

“When the when the spinners came on me and Virat bhai were talking about in the middle that it’s not easy to score signals off the front foot. At one point there was a bit of pressure on us and the message was sent from outside (that) I have to try to be at the end and that’s what I tried to do,” Gill concluded.
