Oman have taken all 10 wickets through spinners without playing a single over of a fast bowler, this is a world record and never happened in the cricketing history in ODI format.
Oman completed an unprecedented feat yesterday when they bundled out Namibia in their ICC World Cup League 2 match in Al Amerat without using a single over of fast bowling, becoming the first team in the history of ODI cricket to bowl out an opposition with only spinners.
What happened in the match?
Oman made history by bowling an entire ODI innings using only spinners, dismissing Namibia for 96 in 33.1 overs. Five spinners shared the wickets, with left-arm spinner Shakeel Ahmed leading the attack with 4-25, while Jay Odedra and Aamir Kaleem took two each.
Despite having medium pacer Sufyan Mehmood in the XI, captain Jatinder Singh opted not to bowl him. This marked the longest-ever spin-only innings in a decided men’s ODI, surpassing the USA’s 5.2 overs of spin against Nepal in 2020.
Spin-only innings have occurred twice in women’s cricket, both in unsuccessful defenses of sub-100 totals. Unlike those, Oman’s match in Al Amerat was a thriller, as they narrowly chased 100, winning by two wickets in 22.4 overs.
