Former Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu opined that Rishabh Pant wasn’t willing to change his approach despite facing multiple failures in IPL 2025. His remarks come after the LSG skipper’s yet another failure with the bat in the game against PBKS on Sunday. So far, Pant has only managed to score 128 runs from 10 innings, averaging just 12.8.

“Feel sorry for Pant”

Speaking to ESPNCricinfo, Rayudu said that he felt sorry for Pant as he was “really stubborn” and was unwilling to change his approach. He said that it happens to all players but hoped that the southpaw won’t become more stubborn and makes things even more complicated for himself. Rayudu further opined that Pant might have the skillset to play in the middle-order but did not have the mindset to execute it.

“I think, at this point in time, I’m feeling very sorry for him because he’s not been changing his batting order or his approach. I think he’s being pretty stubborn about how he wants to go about things. It’s not working in his favour at the moment,” Rayudu said.

“Call Dhoni”

Meanwhile, Sehwag told Cricbuzz that Pant ought to watch old videos of himself batting where he scored runs. He reckoned that the LSG captain had changed post his injury. Further, Sehwag advised Pant to pick up the phone and talk to Dhoni if he considered him as a role model.

“He has a phone. He can pick that up and call whomever he wants. If he feels that mentally he is not thinking right, then there are so many cricketers that can help him. If he considers Dhoni as his role model, then he should talk to him,” Sehwag said.

Pant managed to score just 18 runs off 17 deliveries in LSG’s run-chase against PBKS. At the post-match presentation, he opted to blame poor fielding for the defeat instead of speaking about his own batting failure.
