Dewald Brevis has brought a certain energy to the Chennai Super Kings ever since joining the side midway through IPL 2025. CSK have been sloppy in the field, and Brevis has led the change, with his acrobatic efforts. Again on Wednesday, the 22-year-old was front and center of one of the catches of the tournament during the game against Punjab Kings.
Shashank Singh slogged Ravindra Jadeja over mid-wicket, seemingly clearing the fence. However, Brevis had other ideas. The South African sprinted to reach the ball over the boundary line. He then leaped up in the air, juggled the ball into the field of play. And for the final act, he dived across on the turf to complete a stunning catch.
While the game seemed done and dusted, Brevis’ effort helped CSK push PBKS to the final over. Earlier in the day, the South African stitched a 78-run partnership with Sam Curran, scoring 32 off 26 balls. The South African’s impact at his new franchise is clear to see, with captain MS Dhoni leaping with praise on the 22-year-old post-match.
It’s the momentum in the middle order (Brevis offers). He’s also a very good fielder, he has power and he can hit good balls for boundaries. And he brings good energy. Happy with the way he’s playing. He can be an asset going ahead,” MS Dhoni said after the game.
CSK have not had a lot to look back upon in IPL M2025, but Brevis might be one of the future franchise cornerstones they have unearthed in a wretched campaign.
