Η Rochita Sharma ήταν μόνιμος καπετάνιος της Ινδίας από τον Φεβρουάριο του 2022, αφού ο Virat Kochli αποφάσισε να παραιτηθεί.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are hunting for the India cricket team’s next Test captain. Rohit Sharma’s place in the red-ball team doesn’t seem certain, and he was even forced to drop himself during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Therefore, the BCCI has started planning for the future.
BCCI uninterested in making Jasprit Bumrah India’s next Test captain
Even if Rohit Sharma returns to form, one can’t forget that he’ll turn 38 before India’s Test tour of England. Yes, Jasprit Bumrah has been his deputy for some time now, but due to constant concerns over his fitness, the BCCI are apprehensive about naming Bumrah as India’s next Test captain.
“Bumrah’s chances of a long Test series or completing a full season will always be in doubt. The selectors may want a more stable option,” a source told the Times of India.
KL Rahul not mentioned, Rishabh Pant returns into captaincy conversations
There are few other options. KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant are to obvious ones. Even though Rahul has done well in the last 12-15 months, it doesn’t seem like BCCI are sold on him or his spot in the team. Pant is being looked at keenly. He was earmarked as a potential skipper long back and was Team India’s Test vice-captain before that unfortunate car accident.

Shubman Gill ignored, Yashasvi Jaiswal gets a surprising shout
Fascinatingly, two other young guns names have emerged. The first one isn’t shocking at all. It’s Shubman Gill. Who is the vice-captain in both ODIs and T20Is? But his performance in Test cricket hasn’t been up to par. Therefore, he’s down the pecking order, especially when compared to Pant.
The shocking revelation, of course, is that Yashasvi Jaiswal is also in the conversation. The 22-year-old has been playing Test cricket for just 18 months, but his undeniable talent has forced BCCI to look at him. He’s probably the second name on the team sheet after Bumrah and therefore the board could groom him as India’s next Test captain.
Gill has been seen as a captaincy prospect, but his returns in Test cricket have been average. Rishabh Pant could also be a strong candidate, and maybe someone like Yashasvi Jaiswal can be groomed for the role,” the source added.
